I can remember three dreams from my childhood.

I attended a local private school in Boyle Heights an area on the east side of Los Angeles. Housed in a 30's era streamline moderne building, it had a huge (or it appeared huge to me at the time) sandlot at the rear where we played at recess and lunch. I remember playing on the swings and seeing who could jump the fartherst of my friends. There were houses surrounding the property, and I seem to recall one house that was at the rear. It was this house that my dream was about. I recall a huge fire in the middle of the night and people screaming and a dog howling in agony. Daylight brought a smoldering ruin and a dead dog. I was frightened and sad. I don't know the significance, but this dream, or a form of it, occured several times.

Another repetitive dream that I recall takes place in a black void. There is a long silver wire tranversing this void, and I am a little bubble or ball that is bouncing and rolling along this thread. There is the sound of a piccolo accompanying my movement. Suddenly there is a huge cacophony of sound, mostly brass, tubas and trombones, discordant, and a huge ball or bubble appears in the distance and begins to chase me, the sounds getting louder as it bounces along the wire, creating an immense vibration and overpowering my sense of balance. I awake in a sweat, feeling an unpalatable pressure in my sinuses and mouth. My tongue is thick and my head is fogged. This also occurred several times in my youth probably between the ages of 10-16, and to this day I can almost taste the dread when my sinuses are pressured.

Lastly, one night it occurred that I was walking along the street where we lived in Monterey Park, during the day, and I began to take larger and larger strides, one foot to the other. All of a sudden I was in the air, flying unaiided over my neighborhood and city. What a sense of freedom I felt to be floating through the air, seeing and recognizing places in my world. I looked over and there was my mother, flying along beside me. "Isn't this great?" she said to me. I've always cherised this dream.
